Music Teacher Job Description... Or NOT...

Music is a pretty big part of our lives here in the Lemon Stand household. Amongst the seven of us in our family, we listen to an extremely wide range of music. Beatles, Nat King Cole, Queen, AC/DC, Meatloaf, Abba, Green Day, Breaking Benjamin, My Chemical Romance, Rascal Flatts, Alan Jackson, Tammy Wynette, Nina Simone, Beethoven, Brahms, Wagner, James Taylor, Rogers and Hammerstein, Walt Disney sound tracks... You name it and we've probably played it on one of our many jaunts to anywhere.

Currently in the CD player is the Soundtrack to The Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End. We like to name what instruments are playing what. (Ok, I guess we're weird like that.)

Our kids either play an instrument or sing in the choir so we've had a variety of music teachers over the years. Nicole and I were talking about this years selection of music teachers in comparison to previous years. We both agree that there seems to be only two extremes to the breed. They are either REALLY GOOD or REALLY BAD. There doesn't seem to be any middle ground.

There was one music teacher in the past who was particularly unpleasant. All the kids dreaded music class when he was teaching. I had known of their feelings as they let me know how miserable they were on a daily basis as kids are wont to do. But my jaw dropped at Nicole's description of this teacher's musical ability...
"Mom, he was a Music Incubus! A musical rapist of the Demon kind!" (She has always hated the way he butchered some of her favorite songs)
Her sisters agreed. Gee, I didn't know they felt THAT strongly about his musical ability or rather the lack thereof!  (But man, I did have to laugh at their descriptions!)
